Current Information:Born-Islington
The 4th Royal Fusilier battalion of 9 Brigade, 3rd Division had been involved in the heavy fighting around Ypres at the beginning of November, 1914, and had suffered many casualties during the Battle of Nonne Bosschen on 11th November. On 20th November they were withdrawn from the line and moved back to billets in Westoutre for reorganisation and training. Henry Davis was killed on 25th November while the battalion wa still here. It may have been the case that he was seconded to another unit, closer to the fighting, on this date or maybe he was a victim of some long-range shelling but the Battalion Diary makes no mention of this. |
